Computational Fluid Dynamics – Software SARA (Coupled Structural-Aerodynamic Analysis)
CFD modeling is increasingly applied in the AEC sector to assess:
• Wind loads for structural analysis purposes (tall and slender structures)
• Wind loads for the design and dimensioning of structural components (e.g., façades, pergolas)
• Wind comfort in outdoor urban environments
• Indoor and outdoor microclimate conditions, including the design/evaluation of heating, ventilation,
and air conditioning (HVAC) strategies.
SARA is a CFD software application for the simulation of 3D unsteady, turbulent incompressible flows
enhanced with heat and mass transfer equations for turbulent buoyant flows. It is oriented to civil engineering structures
in terms of the incorporation of suitable turbulence models for unsteady atmospheric flows around bluff bodies,
buoyant indoor flows with heat transfer effects, importing geometrical models from commonly used CAD systems (i.e. REVIT)
or in established standards (IFC format).
SARA includes a range of turbulence models appropriate for both indoor and outdoor aerodynamic simulations,
including the standard k-ε, k-ε RNG, k-ω, k-ω SST, and Large Eddy Simulation (LES) models Its accuracy and performance
have been verified and validated through the simulation of several benchmark tests documented in the literature,
as well as various real-life multiphysics problems.
